Safe, Secure, Simple – how ASC Direct helped a food company ship their glass containers - Box of the Month

The ability to order food products online, particularly for premium and niche food items, can mean more choice and access to additional information about the products you are purchasing. One of our customers provides a range of food items for different tastes and dietary requirements that can be browsed and ordered from their ecommerce website.
It was important for this customer to use environmentally friendly packaging. This was reflected in their personal ethos and the way they did business. They wanted to use sustainable materials for all of their packaging, whether for the food item or the outer packaging to transport the products.
To meet consumer demand for a wide range of food items, this customer sells a wide variety of products in different sized glass containers. This range of sizes is quite a logistical challenge when consumers order multiple items to be delivered.
The Challenge:
Once we understood what our customer needed, we knew it was crucial that the glass jars were held securely for transportation – even a single spillage would ruin the delivery. It was also important that all of the different sized jars could be accommodated – as customers were ordering a range of different sized products - but not to waste space by having the items held too widely apart, making the packaging unstable.
Our customer also wanted to make sure their packaging elevated their brand and delighted their customers to make them feel special and enjoy their purchase. Our extensive experience in ecommerce packaging meant we could accommodate this detailed requirement and make sure our customer got the sustainable packaging they were looking for.
The Solution:
Providing the best packaging solution for this kind of complex requirement is perfect for the team at ASC Direct, particularly James Palfery-Smith, ASC Direct’s Commercial Manager. To hold the different sized items, James designed a 0427 style box with a fitment tray with multiple apertures. The fitment tray allowed the packaging to include various different sized jars without fear of them smashing or moving in transit.
It was important to make sure that the new packaging solution would work. To check, two sample runs were provided whilst we honed the design. We like to move fast! From initial enquiry it only took around two weeks until our customer was able to place their first order.
