Meet the ASC Team – Jan Dadu, Sales Estimator

A Sales Estimator at ASC Direct has to fully understand our customer’s requirements and provide the most-effective perfect packaging solution to meet their needs. That’s where Jan Dadu comes in. From his start in a warehouse environment to his current role in the estimating team, we wanted to know more about his career so far and his current role at ASC Direct.

Jan’s Experience

Jan began his career working in a food production warehouse as a machine operator swiftly rising to team leader and then Factory Manager when the business expanded. Jan explains, “When the company acquired a new factory, I trained the team, oversaw the operations and helped achieved a Double AA in the BRC Audit, the British Retail Consortium's official assessment of a food manufacturer's adherence to its Global Standard for Food Safety. It was my responsibility to organise the team so we were fully resourced to get the orders out on time and make sure they were complete.”

This ability to understand what needs to be delivered and organising the production capability to produce it is something Jan is very experienced at. “In the warehouse, it was down to me to make sure the environment was fully compliant with essentials like health and safety requirements as well as making sure we were meeting customer requirements and delivering on time.” After a number of years in this role, Jan successfully applied for a job at ASC Direct.

Internal promotion at ASC Direct

Originally Jan joined the warehouse team at ASC Direct however he was keen to get on and learn new skills. “One day, I saw an internal opportunity which I applied for but didn’t get. However, Ashley, Celia, and James saw potential in me and offered me a sales estimator position, which I happily accepted. It was brilliant – I’ve been able to progress in the short time I have been here.”

At ASC Direct, we’re really keen on retaining existing staff when new opportunities become available. It’s really great that those individuals who already know our business and team want to get on and learn new skills.

Enjoying the Estimating Role

Jan is really happy in his new role – and is enjoying find out more about corrugated packaging. “This role is very different and means learning an incredible amount – it’s fascinating how many types of material there are and the many ways it can be used to package products. I’ve been learning about all of the FEFCO codes too – a brilliant shorthand way to make sure everyone knows the design they are ordering.”

“We recently introduced web chat on the ASC website, and it has been a great platform for attracting new customers. The largest customer I’ve secured ordered 10,000 boxes, marking the biggest sale of my career as a sales estimator.”

Teamwork is really important to Jan. “The team at ASC Direct are fantastic. Everyone is very close and helps one another. They’ve made me really welcome and been supportive of my need to learn.”

Outside Work

Outside of work, Jan likes to travel and has a trip planned to Gran Canaria in October. Jan is really sociable, “I love going to concerts, trying new restaurants, and enjoying bottomless brunches. I’m very close with my family. We moved to the UK from Hungary when I was 8 years old, and we tend to make plans once a month to spend time together.”
